Personal Evaluation
The point of my FMP
This animation was made with the intention of aiming for specific studios that would appreciate this way of animating through transitional motions and stylistic choice. It was also made to get me outside my comfort zone from character animation and demonstrate my skills in adapting to a new way of animating; to make me more viable when I enter the industry.
What succeeded?
Doing the animation made me measure myself better through how long each step of animation takes me. Stepping away from character animation this year (although there were some (just the cat)) made me more confident in animating other things and this is where ‘stepping outside your comfort zone’ really shines. I was able to learn new techniques in the process and expanded my knowledge of 2D animation as a whole. I’ve improved in taking feedback and effectively applying it to my animation to see quick progress. My new-found workflow through making daily tasks; greatly increased my animation output speed.
What didn’t succeed?
My time management skills went downhill for me this year as it limited the number of animations I was supposed to produce which were 3-5 short animations. It led me to a state of demotivation which was hard to get out of on my own. I wasn’t able to contact as many people from the industry for feedback this year due to that, but it’ll be something worth continuing to do in the future.
Overall
Overall I was able to figure out helpful ways to get out of demotivation. I was able to develop new workflows that can help me better my animation productions for the future when I go into the industry. I believe from this project I would be a lot more adaptable and resilient in the future. From that, I can announce I am ready to do 2D character animation within the industry, alongside with my new found skills through transitional animation.
